being most readers.
Both Plains-wanderers and Inland Dotterels are
being observed just north of Deniliquin on the Plains country.
In December I completed the Spring/Summer edition
of the Plains-wanderer monitoring. This is carried out over a number of
properties from Jerilderie in the east to Wanganella in the west, just north of
Conargo in the south and Hay in the north, 10 sites in all. Whilst numbers were
down on other monitoring occasions, Plains-wanderers are being recorded breeding
- even in the 'worst drought of the century', and Inland Dots have also been
recorded breeding.
While it's is certainly not the best season, both
species are being seen where suitable habitat is available to them. Inland
Dots like it much barer than Wanderers so have a bit more country this year to
choose from!
