I can report that the MLs have arrived back in Box Hill (Melbourne) in large
numbers. I believe this has only happened some time in the last week. I may
have also catched a glimpse of a single bird at Banyule Flats on Thursday.
Surrey Dive is the place to see them at the moment - there would easily be
over 200 MLs feeding from all the trees in the park and nearby streets.
The park was also home to a couple of LP Cormorant nests recently - there is
an island in the middle of the "Dive". This morning I noticed that the birds
had left the nests but there was at least 7 birds in trees - a successful
campaign by the looks of things.
Cheers from John.
Subject: Musk Lorikeets - where are they ? (includes ML references)

No sign of Musk Lorikeets here in Bayside, SE Melbourne,
although they usually arrive about the first week of
December with hundreds around before long.
Some of their favourite plants - the West Australian
Flowering Gum (Corymbia - ex Eucalyptus - ficifolia) are in
bloom so absence of nectar cannot(?) be the reason for the
absence of these birds.
Are they in unusual numbers somewhere else ? Or did the dry
weather affect the orchadists crops north of the Divide so
the birds had a bad breeding season...?
