Little Ringed Plovers appear to be turning up
annually and in very small numbers (upto 4 birds I think in during one season)
in Tasmania's Tammar wetlands near Launceston over the past 3 or 4 years,
according to a few birdos who live there. I dipped out on them in 2000. The
Tammar wetlands provides excellent habitat for a number of shorebirds but you
should get there closer to high tide or you maybe dissapointed. It is a very
large area. There are two (if I heard right) Little Ringed Plovers at
the moment there. I guess they are annual or are regular in small mumber
within Australia though I have yet to see one.
cheers and happy birding.
