Elephant seal only on Sorrento beach for short period this morning - I
missed it. Wildlife Shelter persons (Patti & Peter) from Frankston doing a
fabulous job preventing inappropriate human contact. This is the very busiest
part of our bay beach , so seal is wise to abandon it for periods of time.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Council by-laws staff will assist people management
from tomorrow onwards, working in with the Wildlife Shelter people. It needs to
settle a little further east - Sullivans Bay- to copy the first official
European settlement. Margaret Bell

This message from this afternoon - sorry for the delay but I've been away from my computer: At approx. 1.00 pm, 17 Dec. an elephant seal [presumably the same individual as before] came ashore and is resting on the Sorrento foreshore, east of the main jetty. Last report at 4.00 was it is still there. Over one hundred school children are also using the beach. Several volunteers are hoping to watch over the seal this evening. Temporary signage may be used to keep public and dogs at a distance. The seal appears to be in good health. Cheers, Simon. -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .
