Hi Birders,
Reports by Kate Lindsey earlier this week of a dead Button-quail being eaten by a Currawong at Wahroonga, is of interest. Both Red-chested and Little Button-quails migrate at night and have often been reported in urban areas where they have apparently collided with windows. There are records for both species in Sydney/Central Coast/Newcastle suburbs. From the description I would expect the bird to me a male Little Button-quail as it has buff neck and breasts, with white underparts (but the rump is reddish brown). The Red-chested Button-quail underparts are creamy-buff with a brownish rump.
