Michael Grinter (29 Nov) referred to Lucijet being commonly used on rice.
Long ago when I had the misfortune to be someone of a somewhat 'green'
inclination, working in the Qld NP & WS, a case came over my desk which
involved lucijet-poisoned grain being deliberately used. Numerous birds
were killed, including some raptors that got the poison second-hand.
The local ranger investigated and got the evidence for a prosecution for a
breach of the Fauna Conservation Act. Crown Law certified that there was
sufficient evidence and recommended prosecution.
But the alleged offender must have been of the right political persuasion:
the Minister would not allow the prosecution to proceed.
Thus was it done in Joh's day. Couldn't happen now, could it. Could it?
