Hi all,

Paul Osborn wrote "Has anybody tried domesticating
this species (or any Australian ducks)?
Well Paul all species of Australian waterfowl have
been domesticated. The commonly kept species are
Chestnut Teal, Australian Shelduck, Cape Barren Goose,
and the two Whistling-ducks. Birds held in very low
numbers are Blue-billed, Freckled, Pygmy-geese and
Australasian Shoveler. I think the Blue-billed and
Freckled Ducks are only held by zoos and wildlife
parks.
The Australian Shelduck you saw could have been an
escapee or a bird just passing by. Shelducks are been
sighted in the Hunter region on the odd occasion in
the past.
Hope I helped,

Grant Brosie
