AMERICAN FEDERATION OF AVICULTURE 2003 Convention 'Call for Papers'

The 29th Annual Convention of the American Federation of Aviculture
(AFA) will be held in Ontario, California, USA, from August 6-9, 2003.

The theme of the convention is Parrots of Australia and although we
are focusing on the Australasian region, we are interested in
receiving papers on all avian taxa and aspects of aviculture. This
includes papers on captive breeding, management, conservation,
research, facility design, behavior, and current issues of interest
to aviculturists.

The program will consist of two concurrent sessions that will include
oral presentations, round-tables and workshops. This year, all
speakers are required to submit abstracts to the speaker's committee
for evaluation and publication in the convention program. Please keep
the following guidelines in mind when preparing your abstract.

· Oral presentations will be limited to 35 minutes, with a very short
question and answer session afterwards not to exceed 5 minutes, for a
total time of 40 minutes.

· The abstract should have a clear connection to avicultural issues
and we encourage you to submit new information or techniques that is
of interest to fellow aviculturists and bird enthusiasts.

· If your proposed presentation is accepted, you will be required to
sign a speakers' contract and provide the AFA with a short bio, a
current photograph and to submit a paper to be published in the
convention proceedings. In return, the AFA will provide you with a
complimentary convention registration and a banquet ticket. All other
arrangements, including transportation and hotel accommodations are
the responsibility of the speakers.

· When preparing your abstract, please follow these guidelines:

1. Authors: Please list the name of the author(s). If more than one
contributing author, please identify which one will be presenting the
paper.

2. Addresses: Please list addresses, e-mail and all phone contact
information for the author(s).

3. Biographical information: Include a very short biographical sketch
identifying the author's experience with the topic to be presented
and other relevant information that can assist the speaker's
committee in choosing the presentations.

4. Title: Please list the title of the presentation in CAPITAL LETTERS.

5. Abstract: The body of the abstract is limited to not more than 250
words. Include a clear statement of the objective of the presentation.

6. Deadline: The deadline for submission of all abstracts is
Thursday, February 20, 2003.

7. Format: Please list author(s), addresses and contact information,
short biographical sketch, title of paper and abstract on a separate
single page for submission.

8. Submission Procedure: We prefer that you submit your abstract in
electronic format, but you may also mail or fax it to the AFA Office.
Although we will send you a confirmation letter (and e-mail) upon
receipt, it will be your responsibility to ensure that we have
received it by the deadline for submission (February 20, 2003) and to
ensure that we have it.

a. E-mail: Please send as an attachment in either Word or .txt file
to with the subject line `AFA Convention Abstract'.

b. Fax: Fax to the AFA Office at 816-421-3214. Identify as an `AFA
