A couple of years ago it was 45C at Oakbore shearers quarters, 65 km north
of Renmark SA I was with a group resting up for the day ready for a bat
survey and we watched a Regent Parrot fly to the ground and die, next to the
dripping tap, magpies, striated pardalotes, rainbow bee-eaters were all
going down rabbit holes under the quarters.
I have just returned from a survey at Innes Nat Park and surrounding areas
on York Peninsula recording Western Whipbirds at 40 different sites over six
days, using 20 automatic recorders, so far I have listened to 14 hours with
five definites, three possibles, and some other interesting calls, 26 hours
to go, I will keep you informed.
