Gidday Birders, I once saw a loose flock of about 8 - 10 Whistling Kites feeding on cicadas near Eden (far south coast of NSW). The would dive down and catch cicadas (on the wing if I remember rightly) then eat the soft tail and drop the rest of the insect. This lead to a lot of half-eaten cicadas buzzing on the ground, and some very satisfied looking kites. Cheers Graham Turner |
