G'day all
I thought I should share this with you...
My attention was drawn to a calling Horsefield's Bronze-Cuckoo outside my office
window. The male called up a female who sat in the bush nearby and trilled back
at him. She then hopped onto the garden path and he joined her - I looked away
at this point. After the deed they probed the ground cover shrubs for small
catterpillars. The female found and ate her own. The male gave all he found to
the female. Then a blackbird came and chased them away.
The only bird in the garden they would be parasitising would be the New Holland
Honeyeaters. I don't suppose they would parasitise the Blackbirds or Sparrows?
Does anyone know if our cuckoos parasitise introduced species? I must check in
HANZAB.
Cheers
Steve
