Sightings

21 October

A Little Bittern was seen at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens, on the southern side at the Wylies Creek wetlands; at the western end of the middle lake near the big artificial rocks, thanks Aidan Sudbury.

 

20 October

30 (22+8) Great-crested Grebes seen loafing on water at Lake Colac, Church St GPS 38-19-51 south 143-35-49 east, thanks Peter Bright.

 

20 October

The first Dollarbird has arrived at Valencia Creek, thanks Duncan Fraser.

 

19 October

At least 4 Rainbow Bee-eaters have been seen on the back of the You Yangs, thanks Alex Farias.

 

19 October

2 Olive-backed Orioles (being harassed by Red Wattlebirds) at Kew - on the Yarra River, behind the Guide Dog Association (right near the Chandler Hwy bridge), thanks Greg Oakley.

 

18 October

At the Western Treatment Plant along Murtcaim Road east of Ryans Swamp a large flock (200+) of White-browed Woodswallow, 2-3 Masked Woodswallows and possibly one White-breasted Woodswallow, thanks Aaron Organ.

 

15 October

A single Glossy Ibis and 3 Marsh Sandpipers were seen feeding amongst several Black-winged Stilts at the Riddells Creek Sewerage Ponds (near Mt Macedon), thanks Isaac Clarey.

 

13 October

A Scaly-breasted Lorikeet was seen at Phillip Island, thanks Elizabeth Shaw.

 

13 October

A Black Kite was seen on the McIvor Road just north of the Barkers Creek Reservoir, which is north of Harcourt, thanks Susan Myers.

 

11 October

A Regent Honeyeater was present at Kevin and Linda Penny's property at Stratford, and was watched for some time by Kevin, thanks Duncan Fraser.

 

12 October

White-browed Woodswallows and Masked Woodswallows were still present near Toynes Road on the eastern boundary of the You Yangs Regional Park and also along Sandy Creek Road near the western boundary.  The former area had a female White-winged Triller, the latter area a male.  Approximately 6 Little Corellas were with a couple dozen Long-billed Corellas near the southern boundary of the Park, thanks Alan Grenon and Jen Spry.

 

10 October

3 males and one female Black Honeyeater were reported feeding in Eremophilas at Mologa Railway Reserve just west of Terrick Terrick N.P, thanks Simon Starr.

 

9 October

More than 100 White-browed Woodswallows and 10 Masked Woodswallows were seen on Toynes Road on the eastern boundary of the You Yangs Regional Park, thanks Susan Myers

 

9 October

An Olive-backed Oriole was seen and heard at Langwarrin, thanks Paul Hackett.

 

8 October

Approximately 50-60 White-browed Woodswallows near the western edge of Royal Park - more or less over the top of the Tullamarine Tollway just south of Brunswick Road, thanks Laurie Conole.

 

7 October
A flock of 25 Swift Parrots feeding in a large Forest Red Gum on the edge of the town of Bairnsdale in East Gippsland, thanks Jim Reside.

Updates

The Baillon's Crake is still visible at Westgate Park and was most recently seen on the 6th of October, thanks Richard Nowotny
