On Sunday 8th September, c.3.30 pm, we visited the Tamborine Mountain
Botanic Gardens.
In a clump of palms next to the 'lake' I found a Zoothera thrush
scratching about in fallen fronds and other litter. I believe it to have
been immature because the white spots on the upper wing-coverts were
more buff than white. The tail seemed rather short to me.
I have been familiar with Bassian Ground-Thrush since my teenage days,
but I don't know if the Tamborine bird should be a Bassian Ground-Thrush
Z. lunulata or a Russet Ground-thrush Z.heinei.
I would be grateful for advice from those who know the area.
At these gardens we also saw and heard Satin Bowerbirds, and a
Brush-Turkey tending a nest-mound. Pity about the domestic Muscovy and
Mallard-cross ducks though.
