Hello every one,
Sorry to tell you this Penny and Robert but on the 10-8-2001at
app.
14-30hrs one of these mythical birds flew over the Botanical Gardens in
Alice Springs so you dont have to go chasing off to Newhaven Robert, just
hang around the Alice.
By the way Newhaven was great, or as great as it can be when you're bunged
up with flue, its windy and birds are hard to find, but managed to see such
gems as Spinifex Birds, Black Honeyeaters,Grey Honey eaters, Slaty-backed
Thornbills and the elusive Rufous-crowned Emu Wren.
Sydney birdo's, the Fairy Martins have returned to the Hawkesbury as well
as Jap Snipe and there was a Black -tailed Native Hen at Pitt Town Ferry Rd
Lagoon Wilberforce on Saturday, just outside the boundary for a good Sydney
List tick.
But it pales into insignificance when you here about the Northern Shoveler
that was on a pond on the golf course close to the Sydney Airport Hilton on
the 30th June 02, that was a mega Sydney tick that got away. Seen by two
USA guys who did'nt know how rare this species is in Australia, and told no
one until to late. Could this have been the same bird many of us saw a few
weeks later at Ash Island Newcastle nsw
