Thanks to Bruce Wedderburn, Shirley Cameron, Frank O'Connor, Timothy
Blackwood, Zdeni Schultz, David Harper, David Siems, Maria Merkling Havens,
Chris Ross, Peter Woodall and John Boyce for providing me info on the best
field guide for SA, offers of borrowing, and other helpful hints.
For those who are interested, it appears the two most popular field guides
are SASOL (Sinclair et al) Birds of Southern Africa and Newman's Birds of
Southern Africa. It seems a bit like a choice between Pizzey and Simpson &
Day, with 55% of respondents favouring SASOL and 45% favouring Newman.
Based on that, and on the fact that it appears there is going to be a
revised & updated SASOL out in October, I'll probably go for that one.
Thanks again to all those who responded.
Cheers
