Hi All,

Like Roy, I was surprised by Colin's news about Bee-eaters, as we have them
most of the year, especially winter, in Beerwah, in the Glasshouse Mountains
just to the north of Brisbane. The small movements of some birds is quite
fascinating to me. Similar to Colin's experiences, I lose the Striated
Pardalote from my garden in the height of summer, and yet only have to
travel a couple of kms from home to hear it. Alternatively, the Spangled
Drongo, which can be here all year or at any time of the year, is absent
from a number of local sites during the winter.

Further on the subject of migrants, I was doing a Pumicestone Passage survey
of high tide roosts on Saturday for the Qld Wader Study Group, and found
Eastern Curlew in unusual spots, a reasonable sign that they are migrants on
passage further south.

cheers,

Jill

Cheers,

Jill
