31 July
A Red-whiskered
Bulbul was seen at Wilson Reserve in Ivanhoe yesterday, near the Chelsworth
playing fields. Other birds of interest were 4 Nankeen
Night-herons, Tawny Frogmouth, Azure Kingfisher and
Spotless Crake, thanks Michael Mules.
30 July
There were two
Brolgas at Reedy Lake, Geelong, readily visible from the dirt mound at
the end of Station Road, thanks John Moverley.
29 July
A single Black-tailed
Native Hen was seen at Westgate Park (Port Melbourne/Fisherman's Bend),
thanks Michael Veitch and Richard Nowotny.

At Jack
Smith Lake in Gippsland there were in excess of 75 Musk Duck were seen on
a kilometre of water, also an extraordinary concentration of Coots,
numbering several thousand birds, thanks Duncan Fraser.

Australian Hobby was seen on the eastern part of French Island, thanks

An adult
and a juvenile White-bellied Sea-eagle were seen on Coast Road on French
Island, thanks Chris Chandler.

There
were a couple of sightings of Australasian Bitterns at Werribee Treatment
Plant; one in reeds in Little River, another in grass near the sea,
thanks Sue Taylor.

A
Spotted Harrier was seen flying low over grassland and perching in dead
trees at the Hamilton Parklands reserve on the northern edge of the city, thanks
Steve Clark.

A flock
of 12 Blue-winged Parrots were seen feeding among the beaded glasswort
patches on the edges of Swan Bay near Queenscliff, thanks Ron
Corinaldi.

Two
Red-capped Robins, an adult male and an immature male, were seen along
the Djerriwarrh Track in the Long Forest Flora Reserve, thanks Isaac
Clarey.
19 July
Black Kites have been seen on the
Western Highway, 4 km east of Stawell and 3 km east of Kaniva, thanks Ian
May.
18 July
A Spotted Harrier was seen at
the Western Treatment Plant, thanks Gil Langfield.
Updates
The Powerful Owl was in an Acmena (labelled) more or less
above the path at the extreme south-eastern corner of Fern Gully on the
1st of August. Nearest gate is E Gate, walk c 150m down main
path, Canna Bed on your right, and a further 20m on your left path forks - the
bird should be above you, thanks Hugo Phillips
The Powerful Owl was at the same perch along the Yarra
River in the Banyule Wetlands, sitting on what appeared to be a ringtail possum
on the 25th, thanks Celia Browne
