Hi Birders,
The NSW Central Coast continues to offer good
birding and I have been out and about a lot because of two different groups of
overseas birders being given the tour of the better birding sites, while other
birders such as Boris Branwhite, Rob Quinan and Robin Benson have been out
checking out other locations.
Swift Parrots continue on in the
Swamp Mahogany and Forest Red Gums where ever these are flowering, and while
they can still be found at Bateau Bay although in lesser numbers, others can be
found at Gorokan (Main Rd & the Corso, Gorokan, and at the Gorokan Fish
Co-op), and in Louisiana Rd Warnervale.
Regent Honeyeaters can still be
found at South Swansea, South Morisset and at Brisbane Water National Park near
Kariong. Three different colour-banded birds have now been observed at
Kariong.
Black-browed Albatross and
Yellow-nosed Albatross were seen off Soldiers Point, Norah Head
and Toowoon Bay on 25/7/02 and again off Soldiers Point 27/07/02.
A Great Skua was seen off Norah
Head on 25/07/02 and Giant Petrel off Soldiers Point on
27/07/02.
Fairy Prions were feeding close to
the cliffs at Norah Head on 25/2/07, while Fluttering
Shearwaters, 800+ have been seen on most days from the aforementioned
points.
Small numbers of White-fronted
Terns have been present off Soldiers Pt/Norah head
25-27/7/02.
24 Freckled Ducks have been
present at the Tuggerah STW, Wyong Rd Tuggerah from 27/07/02, these are the
first ever recorded on the Central Coast, they were still these
today.
2 Pink-eared Ducks and many
Australasian Shovelers are also present also on the Tuggerah
STW, and at the nearby Lions Park, Chittaway Bay on the shores of Tuggerah Lake
were another 64+ Shovelers.
Red-kneed Dotterels and
Black-fronted Dotterels can be found at the Tuggerah STW while
Double-banded Plovers, showing their double-bands can be seen
at both Soldiers Point and Toowoon Bay.
4 Bush Stone-curlews (Edwin Vella
to note!) were present at Boyd Close, St Hunbert's Island during the week and
another 3 at Kincumber today.
A Grey Goshawk was at Narara on
27/07/02 as were an male and female Regent
Bowerbird.
