Hi Everyone,
This is just a note to update everyone from the
temporary Swift Parot and Regent Honeyeater capital of Australia! aka NSW
Central Coast (Gosford & Wyong LGAs)
Swift Parrots are still present in
good numbers. There are still 150+ at Bateau Bay (present since 18/5/02) at the
usual sites of Murray,Patmore, Point,Harbour & Lakin Streets, Sutton Reserve
& a small part of Wyrrabalong NP. However all these birds roost in
Wyrrabalong NP between Reserve Drive and Crackneck Lookout. Smaller numbers are
at nearby Shelley Beach. 70+ are still being seen by Boris Branwhite in the
Wyongah/Wadalba area and they appear to go to roost somewhere near Porters Ridge
just north-west of Wyong. Toukley Golf Course and nearby Rotary Park
Gorokan regularly have up to 30 Swift Parrots. Val Moon said 40+ were
still at Wyee Point today. A new site this week was small numbers feeding in
Banksia ericafolia flowers in Brisbane Water NP near
Kariong.
14 Regent Honeyeaters were counted
during the week at Wyee Point west, where they have been since 14/5/02, and
between 70-100 are going to roost each night SE of Morisset first located by
Allan Richardson. A new site for Regents was found during the week by Graeme
Catt who located 15+ feeding and bathing in Hawkesbury sandstone country near
Kariong, same location as per the Swift Parrots. One of these birds was
colour-banded.
Other interesting records this week
include a Pacific Baza at Wamberal 14/07/02, another at Wadalba 12/07/02 (Boris
Branwhite); an Immature Kelp Gull at Norah Head on 10/7/02 (R.Quinan); an out of
season White-throated Gerygone at Chain Valley Bay on 8/7/02; 3 Bush
Stone-Curlews at the Nautical Village, Kincumber 9/07/02; an early Olive-backed
Oriole at Bateau Bay 10/7/02; and a Brown Honeyeater at Chain Valley Bay North
on 11/7/02.
