G'day,
Flushed with success from yesterday, we (Duncan
Walbridge and myself) spent some more time today seawatching from Woorim, Bribie
Island.
There were still large numbers of shearwaters
around, although perhaps a little down on yesterday's counts. The gannets
and boobies were around in similar numbers, and the Antarctic Prion finally put
in an appearance shortly after 3.30pm. Just a short while later, a Little
Shearwater flew past, an excellent bird for South-east Queensland.
Tern enthusiasts may be interested to hear that
about 40 Little Terns flew south into Moreton Bay this evening. There were
also quite a few Common Terns visible during the day.
A feature of the sea off Woorim at the moment is
the large amount of tuna in the area. Dolphins are also much in evidence,
with some appearing in nearly every telescope view. Species included
Bottle-nosed, Indo-pacific Humpback and Spinner.
So, if you fancy a spot of seawatching this
weekend, pick up a coffee from Gilligan's (adjacent to the Woorim car park) and
head beachwards.
