Subject: Wedge-tailed Eagle Tasmania (info)
Graham turner asks about the Wedge-tailed Eagle (WTE) status.
Possibly what the Federal Minsiter was talking about is the Tasmanian form of
the WTE which is threatebned in that state.
'The Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle is considered to be:
- critically endangered by the Endangered Species Advisory Committee based on
IUCN (1994) criteria,
- listed as endangered under Schedule 1 of the Commonwealth Environment
Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and
- vulnerable under Schedule 4 of the Tasmanian Species Protection Act 1995'
The following link on the Tasmanian Parks & Wildlife Service web pages has more
details for those interested.
