Hi all,
Just a quick note.
I had the chance to join Barry and Julie Bucholtz
on their quarterly trip from Alice Springs to
Adelaide
on route to Kangaroo Is..
Absolutely fantastic hosts and Barry,( a terrific
arid zone
birder and another appreciator of Penfolds 407 Cab Sav).
This was just a 4 day sortie from
Bundaberg,
after flying to the Alice but brilliant
birding.
Highlights include:
1.Grey Honeyeaters off the Tanami Rd ;both an adult
and
juvenile along with the best views of Hooded Robins
and
Crested Bellbirds I've seen.
2.Near Marla ;all 3 Whitefaces within 20
mins...terrific views
of Banded and Chestnut-breasted in that
inhospitable
spinifex and saltbush country.
3.The mussels' dish at the Italian restaurant in
North Terrace
,Adelaide near the Grosvener Hotel.
Dipped on Short-tailed Grasswren at Warren Gorge in
the
Flinders Ranges but nearly compensated with
150+
Blue-winged Parrots at close range near Western
Grey
Kangaroos and the most obliging Yellow-footed Rock
Wallabies.
I must add though, that this grasswren was on
Barry's wish list
not mine so would have been a real
bonus.
Cheers ,
Bill
