Late yesterday, I finally got round to cutting back some patches of exotic
grass and weeds in between the house and the creek.

This-morning, at breakfast, Eileen pointed out some Plum-headed Finches
feeding their way through the remnants, mixed in with a larger party of
Double-bars. We subsequently spotted Red-browed and Zebra Finches too.

I was contemplating a contribution to the vernacular names discussion, along
the same lines of multi-level usage of common names that Hugo Phillips has
since put so well. Thanks Hugo, I'm happy to refrain, and watch from the
sidelines as this one goes round again.

Instead, I'm off to mow some paths through the top end of the garden, to see
what we can tempt into that area. Maybe more Redsnips and Shelleys.
