Hi all,
(In response to Stuart call form information) over the weekend I visited a
couple of sites previously mentioned in birdline and birding-aus.
At Lake Lorne the number of Freckled Duck has increased from 30 to
approximately 100 birds! On Sunday they were near the main road and were very
easy to see - I was able to get within a few meters of a large flock. This must
surely be the easiest place to see this rare bird in Aust. Also present were
large numbers of Blue-billed Duck and Little Egret.
I also paid another visit to Reedy Lake, Lake Connewarre (Lake Moolap Rd
entrance) and the four Brolga are still present. The water level is fairly
consistent at the moment so it's quite easy to walk around - specifically
towards the golf course. A number of 'summer migrants' were surprisingly still
present, including Whiskered Tern, Greenshank and Tree Martin. There were also
several large groups of Red-kneed Dotterel (looking absolutely splendid!),
numerous Marsh Harrier, both Spoonbill, Little Egret and Pied Stilt.
