Bob,

Now that your dove has been identified as a Barbary Dove urge the local
Parks and Wildlife to get rid of them immediately while there are only a
few.

The Alice Springs experience illustrates the disastrous result of waiting
until there is money in the budget before doing anything. Populations of
both Barbary Doves and Spotted Turtle-doves reached many thousands before
there was a serious attempt at control.

As a result it has been impossible to get rid of the Spotted Turtle-dove.
It is still possible that the Barbary Dove can be eliminated, but only with
a great deal of effort.

Barbary Doves breed year round. They have been assisted in becoming
established by their attractive appearance which gets them a few food
handouts and protected nesting sites.
