Hi Everyone,
Red Wattlebirds are resident in many
parts of the NSW Coast, Tablelands and Slopes but they also migrate northwards
along the coast from southern NSW and Victoria in autumn, and migrate from
the high mountain forests of the Great Divide to the coastal forests and to the
woodlands of the tablelands and slopes in autums as well. The movement appears
to be quite complex but the large flocks moving northwards in April-May, and
moving to the flowering box and ironbark forests inland, have been well
doumented, and the movements still occur.
The Swift Parrots at Bateau Bay,
about 200+ birds are still present, having been first seen on 18/5/02. They are
spread over about 12 surburban blocks, from Reserve Drive Bateau Bay, in the
north and east, to Bateau Bay Road and Rickard Street to the west, including
Sutton Reserve and part of Wyrrabalong National Park. They are primarily feeding
on lerps in the big old Blackbutts of the leafy suburb of Bateau Bay, and in the
flowering Swamp Mahogany mostly located in WNP & Sutton Res. Sutton Reserve,
Norahview, Bangalow and Murray Streets are the best spots to see
them.
