We checked out the site again this morning. Easy flushed the Painted Snipe
from an area of very open typha within metres of where he saw it
yesterday. It flew about 100 metres away into typha.
From the car park, walk to the back of the tennis courts and follow the
edge of the typha to the left for 50 to 100 metres. There is a swathe cut
through the typha which is well grassed with some areas of water in the
grass. The area is very muddy. This swathe does a loop around to the left
back to the path. The snipe was sheltering in this island of typha, about
2 metres into the typha on the north side. This is a small very sparse
area of typha and it in there.
On both days the bird did not flush until Easy was only two to three metres
from the bird.
Hopefully it will remain faithful to this site for a while to come. Please
let me know of any further sightings.

Subject: Painted Snipe at Herdsman Lake Perth
Easy Patterson has reported a female Painted Snipe at Herdsman Lake in
Perth this morning (Saturday 18th May).
The location is near the tennis courts off the north end of Herdsman Drive
near Jon Sanders Drive. Park in the car park near the tennis courts, and
walk around to the left (south) for 100 to 200 metres or so to an area
where there are some young trees being grown near the typha reeds. The
snipe was in the flooded grass. It flushed into the reeds but didn't go
too far, and so hopefully it will stay around for a while. Painted Snipe
in the eastern states recently have been site faithful for quite long
periods of time.
