This autumn's first resplendent male Rose Robin turned up in the garden
today - just making it onto the April list. What a beauty! He just couldn't
the spray from a hose I'd set up in the garden (for no reason other than to
tempt the birds down).

A Swamp Harrier dropped into rough grass on the opposite creek bank here
yesterday, as moorhens, herons and egrets dispersed to left and right. It
sat there just long enough for me to get a scope on it, its paler face
suggesting it was a juvenile bird. As it took off to flop its way downstream
it showed a rump just turning to white.

A brilliantly orange/chestnut Brahminy Kite had already passed low along the
creek the same morning, while a Wedge-tailed Eagle
cruised very large and low over the house and garden (four days in a row
now). Brown Goshawk and Collared Sparrowhawk also here yesterday, with a
Black Falcon on a roadside post in between Abberton and Gatton.
Square-tailed Kites and Little Eagles are about, but we haven't had them in
or over the garden yet this season. Grey Goshawk recently though.

Little Lorikeets have been zipping around - the first for some time, and
we've been getting Horsfield's Bronze and Fan-tailed Cuckoos.
