Hi All,
It has been a beautiful sunny Autumn day in the Blue Mountains. Lots of
bird activity. The Yellow-faced honeyeater migration is still in full
swing, while Red & Little Wattlebirds and New Holland Honeyeaters are
fighting over the banksia flowers. Red-browed Finches still have fledglings
in tow. An eclipse male Variegated Fairy-wren was busy fighting his
reflection in the car mirror (I thought they would only do that in the
breeding season) and Golden Whistlers and Fantail Cuckoos have been calling
all day. I even saw a Red-browed Treecreeper (always a welcome sight)
fossicking in the hanging bark of a Black Ash.
But this afternoon put the cream on the cake! 3 Glossy Black-cockatoos flew
in, a new species for our garden list, although we often see them not far
away. That brings the garden list to 117 species, not bad for a mountains
garden.
