At Elsternwick Park in SE Melbourne there is a 4? year old lake about 200m long and 80m wide with an island. Swans have nested for the last 2 years with only one pair present. About 2 weeks ago they had a new brood. Two days ago another pair arrived and seem to have the original pair and their cygnets bailed up in a corner of the lake. There has been some fighting and apparent attacks on the cygnets (with one possibly killed). 1. Is this common behaviour ? 2. Any suggestions about how to protect the cygnets ? Many thanks for any ideas Michael Norris Bayside Friends of Native Wildlife Birding-Aus is on the Web at www.shc.melb.catholic.edu.au/home/birding/index.html To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe birding-aus" (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
