I had a similar event at Pitt Town Lagoon (approx. 55 km north-west of Sydney) on 6th April 1997, when I saw no less than 1000 Tree Martins with a few Fairy Martins and Welcome Swllows all hawking over the water and then later perched on reed stems in the water. Considering the time of year, it looked like a pre-migration gathering. I have never seen that many Tree Marins at the one place before. I have not seen any Martins in Sydney these past few weeks but have seen them over-wintering. Has anybody had any similar experiences with other birds? Edwin |
