Goldfinches

Here in Gippsland a few years back, Goldfinches seemed to have greatly
declined, but over the last three years I have been seeing them in
increasing numbers. Some flocks at Jack Smith Lake have been huge. One bird
that concerns me a bit is the Brown Thornbill. When I started doing surveys
for the Atlas, they were one of the commonest birds ticked on my sheets, but
over the last three years they seem to have become very scarce, to the point
where they are an unusual sighting. I wonder what the situation is
elsewhere? Duncan Fraser, Maffra, Vic.
