sensation over there. I don't have a direct role in this, I have been on years
of wader surveys but have not banded a wader (though I support the studies of
those that have done so).

Dear Brian and birdnetters ---
The following comes from Dr Pavel Tomkovich, who is ornithologist at the
museum of the Moscow State University, and one of the world's leading wader
specialists. He suggests that Brian's yellow legflagged CuSa comes from NW
Australia. If this proves to be the case, this bird is getting on to be as
exciting as the Great Knot at Langebaan, because it will be the first record of
a CuSa that has changed its nonbreeding grounds between the two southern

My guess is that the bird
originates from NW Australia where all waders receive yellow flag on right
tibia. It would be the very first such movement if to prove this by handling
