I went on a week's trip to Melbourne and did not do much birding. However on 7 April, I visited Wattle Park, which is adjacent to Melbourne suburb Surrey Hills. I found one Buff-banded Rail at the reedy pond close to the Elgar Road end. It is a new species for me for that site, a place I have been to many times over the past 30 years, though I have seen one of them before at Blackburn Lake, which is a few more suburbs further out.
