Hi all,

The autumn parade of migrating honeyeaters is once again underway here in
the Blue Mountains. My house overlooks a natural ampitheatre where the
honeyeaters fly up from the Jamison Valley and follow the gully up until
they cross my street where a stand of tall eucalypts borders the road. This
morning I counted 460 flying over in a random ten-minute period
(11.30-11.40), which works out at 2760 per hour. This is, I think, the
highest count I have had in the last 2-3 years, although in the past I have
counted up to 4000 an hour on a good day. It has to be seen to be believed!

This morning they are nearly all Yellow-faced, with just the occasional
White-naped amongst them, and a few Spotted Pardalotes going over as well.
Later in the season the proportion of White-naped increases, until they
make up the majority usually by mid-May.

Cheers

Carol
