Well, I seem to be the keeper and distributor of Laughing Gull news.
Contrary to what I reported earlier this evening, Dave Stewart has informed
me that "The Laughing Gull was at Bribie at about 3:15 in front of the shops
(for about 10 seconds) then flew off south and we again saw it amongst a
large group of gulls and terns in front Buckly's Hole. It was very flighty,
probably because of the strong wind and rain". Thanks, Dave.

For those of you coming to Bribie tomorrow and curious about the Buckley's
Hole location - continue past the Bongaree jetty on the 'main' road
alongside the Pumicestone Passage. Pass the Bowls Club on the right and the
RSL on the left, coming immediately to the first roundabout you will have
seen for a while. Turn right into McDonald Street and right again, after 50
yards or so, into The Boulevarde. Park on the left almost immediately and
you will see a sandy track that goes around the north side of the lagoon
(Black-necked Stork this evening) to the beach and mangroves. A sandy spit
appears offshore from this area in all but high tides. This is where I
first saw the bird and presumably where Dave saw it this afternoon.

My visits to Bribie this weekend will be few and far between. If anyone
else wants to report sightings to birding-aus then that's fine. If I find
messages sent to me that are of interest then I'll pass them on. I suspect
that folk that have no particular interest in Laughing Gulls may be getting
a bit bored with it all by now, so unless I receive requests to report back
on sightings after this weekend I will quieten down. Of course, if the bird
disappears and is presumed to have departed, and then re-appears, I will get
back online with the news.

And for our other birding-ausers - the Madagascan chicken at Skippers (on
the left, halfway between the bridge and Bongaree) is out of this world,
re-confirmed this evening.

Cheers - Trevor Ford.
