Would birding-aus readers care to nominate their candidate locations for the

Do you mean standing in one spot? Or within say 30 minutes walking from one spot? Or a 5km radius? Or say a boat on Lake Argyle (about 20 times or so bigger than Sydney Harbour)?

The best places that I can think of easily in WA are :

Parry Lagoons near Wyndham (north east Kimberley) 2 hours
Broome Sewage Ponds (west Kimberley) 1 hour
Crab Creek Mangroves (Broome) 1 to 2 hours
Lake Eda (Broome) 1 to 2 hours
Herdsman Lake (Perth) 1 hour
Alfred Cove (Perth) 1 hour
Eric Singleton Nature Reserve (Bayswater, Perth) 0.5 to 1 hour
Lake McLarty (Pinjarra) 1 to 2 hours

Derby Sewage Ponds would have been included but most of the water is now being diverted to the gold course. You could get 60 to 80 species in 2 hours there before, but now it might only be 40 or 50.

I don't have number of species close at hand but it would range from 50+ at Bayswater / Alfred Cove / Herdsman Lake to 80 to 100 at Parry Lagoons. At the right time of year of course when the migrants are present.
