Foxes are obvious threats and I hope to be talking to David Kemp about that soon. But bumblebees are also being released deliberately and doing damage. This from the Enviroweeds mailing list. The sender is: "In the latest edition of Austral Ecology (Vol 27, No 2, April 2002), there is an article titled: Extent of invasion of Tasmanian native vegetation by the exotic bumblebee Bombus terrestris (Apoidea: Apidae), by Hingston et al. The paper looks at the invasion of native vegetation in Tasmania by the bumblebee since its first sighting in Hobart 9 years ago." It's everywhere and ought to have been stopped earlier. And should be stopped now in mainland Aus. But there are people who think it would just be great for fertilising hot house tomatoes.....
