There was also one on this in that excellent radio program:
Background Briefing.
This is "Radio National's Weekly Investigative Documentary:
Sundays at 9.10am, repeated Tuesdays at 7.10pm". To me, it
is variable but at times - eg Indonesian fires and wood
interests - reaches the heights of investigative journalism.
Forest Follies was broadcast on 10/3/02 and you can hear it
or read a transcript via
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/talks/bbing/index/bbchronoidx.htm
As I understood it, part of the problem is that the people
who cut down the trees are required by their licenses to
supply X amount to the mills for wood pulp. Wish I had time
to study the issue.
Perhaps there's another mailing list with more info !
(Which is my way of saying sorry Al if what you were really
doing was telling us about Whale Watch - how do we find it?)
