Hi All, I too had a great day out with the whales, managing to get a few birds along the way as well, getting 3 lifers and adding 6 to my Aus list. For me, the most surprising tick of the day first made its appearance not long after dawn, and was then regularly sighted throughout the day, and as far as the Peterborough turnoff on the way home. It was Fork-tailed Swift! In all the preparation for the trip, studying and comparing sea-birds ready to identify from a moving platform, it never occurred to me to look that far back in my field guide.
