I really enjoyed the below article and found a couple of similarities with
the story;
a. I took up birding after seeing the enthusiasm and excitement of birder's
aboard the Sydney Pelagic trip. I was there purely to "Sea Monster" spot
(Steve Anyon-Smith's memorable term for marine mammals). I found the
birding completely infectious.
b. I now know the correct term for myself...... "A cheap date". Fits me
to a tee. I've just turned 40, which alone is quite frightening enough but
at my current rate, concerning my birding prowess of course, I will still
be a cheap date until my late 60's !! I recently went to my local wetland
(Edithvale) and *with help* came away with 3 ticks and that is even after
dipping on the Long-toed Stint. AND I still need Mike Norris to kindly
double check things I thought I saw ie; Musk duck at Brighton baths.
So much to see and so little time.
