At lunchtime yesterday, I was lamenting the fact that the "autumn in my
garden" birds were only Red Wattlebird, Grey Butcherbird, Common Blackbird,
Spotted Turtle-Dove, Brown Thornbill, White-browed Scrubwren, Grey fantail,
Australian Magpie and Singing Honeyeater.
Ever hopeful of seeing another bird species I looked towards the above
ground pedestal type bird bath.
What had caught my eye was in fact a Bush Rat hanging on to the rim. It was
there for quite a while drinking and resting then drinking again. There was
obviously something wrong with it however I don't know if it was injured or
maybe poisoned. When it finally left the bird bath it laid stretched out in
the sun on the pavers for some time before disappearing - probably going off
to die somewhere.
