I know the following is more or less an ad but Russell has given it the
green light. If you don't like this sort of thing delete now. It is of
interest however to those of us that travel "the outback" and are taking
an interest in The Year of the Outback.

Subject: Map out your Year of the Outback in 2002
Planning your trip to experience Australia's Outback in 2002 has been made
easy with the launch of Australia's Outback Map featuring spectacular
outback images and complete listing of events and activities for 2002
Australia's Year of the Outback.
The official Year of the Outback map is called "Australia's Outback" and
is produced by Hema Maps, a company that specializes in mapping the
Outback. Australia's Outback Map includes full terrain detail, a
comprehensive road map and is boarded by 46 images representing a cross
section of all Australia's Outback.
The reverse side lists a month-by-month guide and contact details for all
the events and activities, from cattle droves to car treks and river
regattas and bush races, officially registered on the calendar to
celebrate 2002 as Australia's Year of the Outback.
Scenic playing cards have also been released, they feature 54 different
Outback scenes on the playing face, ideal as an Outback souvenir or for
travelers wishing to enjoy a quiet moment during or after their Outback
experience, reminiscing about where they have been or where they want to
go. The map is dedicated to Outback safety and encourages travelers to
carefully plan their visit to the Outback in 2002.
The founder and chairman of the Year of the Outback, Mr Bruce Campbell
MBE, congratulated Hema Maps on their commitment to sharing the beauty of
the Outback and the message of Outback safety.
"There is no other destination in the world like our Outback. It is a
region which contributes significantly to the Australian economy through
mining, tourism and agriculture."
"There are now hundreds of reasons for people to visit our Outback this
year with more than 600 events on offer together with the spectacular
landscapes and friendly country hospitality."
"What you will see and hear, and the people you will meet, will transform
your life," Mr Campbell said.
