When walking around Blue Gum Lake (Perth) this morning i noticed an Australian Magpie stuck hopelessly in the muddy margins of the Lake.I retrieved the unfourunate bird, that was in a very depressed condition, and naturally was soaked in mud. It appeared to be an immature and perhaps unaware of the dangers of the muddy margins.
This is the first time i have seen a bird stuck in the mud. I was wondering if other such instances have been recorded.
I took the bird to a wildlife carer and hope it will recover.
Earlier in the morning i had visited Booragoon Lake and observed an Australasian Little Grebe with some fishing line wrapped around its neck. I mentioned this to the carer who advised it is probably a Jilgie (a type of small marron) snare as she has heard of people using snares at this Lake. The Grebe was in good condition , probably due to the line being loose around its neck.
Regards
