I'm confused. My understanding is that a proposed gold mine at Lake
Cowal which was rejected on environmental grounds by the NSW government
in 1996. The proposal was then modified to present less threat to Lake
Cowal and agreement was reached with some well-known environment groups,
including the NPA and the NCC. Subsequent to this the NSW government
approved the modified proposal in 1999.
I'm not surpised that some groups still oppose the mine but I'm puzzled
that the NCC is listed among them. Have I missed something?
Birds Australia is also listed - does Birds Australia really oppose
the current mine?
