Syd,

HANZAB states the following " FOOD: Carnivorous; specialized in taking medium
to large-sized arboreal mammals, mainly Common Ringtail Possums and Greater
Gliders; also roosting birds and occasionally large beetles. Mammals take
mostly in weight range of 50 - 100% of adult Owl body-weight (Kavavagh 1997)."

The two Powerful Owls that resided in the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney mostly
fed on Rattus rattus with the occasional Grey Headed Flying Fox and Ring-tailed
possum.

Owls were introduced to Lord Howe Island in the hope of controlling rats,
but found birds much easier to get. Do powerful owls eat only mammals?
