Subject: 'Clunes' Forest - for information
Marlene,
Try the 1: 100 000 topographic map 7623 'Creswick'. It doesn't actually
name 'Clunes State Forest' (SF) but the old Land Conservation Council (LCC)
Report for the North Central Area (may be available from your library) indicates
various blocks of public land to the north, north-west and south-west of Clunes
township.
About 5km north-west of town, on the Maryborough Rd., is a state forest block
which straddles the road. This may be what you're thinking of. To the
east/south-east of town is Mt Beckworth SF and their are a few wildlife reserves
north of town - Merin Merin and Middle swamps which may be good if they have
water.
Closer to Maryborough there is further state forest in much larger blocks.
I don't have any specific bird lists for these areas but an interrogation of the
relevant grid cells from the Atlas of Victorian Wildlife (039 450 8600) would
certainly be worth trying.
cheers
