Hello Frank O' and other interested parties,

Thank you Frank for your considered and eminently sensible response to my
suggestions re the SIPO recently reported at Ballina.
It is quite refreshing to read such informed and informative postings that
really do come to the point.
I have learned something.
It is obvious from Frank's response that banding is not a random business and
that sensible heads are oversighting this very useful process.

I agree that, in this case, banding would not be practical but I am still
wondering if dye-marking would have a place here.
Of course, it would not be necessary to completely or significantly cover the
bird with a brilliant colour as suggested by one of our less helpful
contributors; a small spot on the chest or belly would be sufficient.

For the benefit of some of our readers, my desire to have this bird marked for
easy identification is to do with finding out if there is more than one SIPO in
Australia rather than with the desire to be able to identify the bird as a SIPO
simply for the purpose of making it easy for 'twitchers' to add the species to
their list.
