continuation of Atlas

A few weeks ago I received an email from the Atlas organisers saying
that they planned to extend the Atlas during 2002 and perhaps beyond.
I've been surprised that there has been no announcement or discussion
on this list. Any comments?

I think it's a great idea to have continual nationwide recording of
bird sightings into a central database, and a great way for birders
to contribute to the study and conservation of birds. Will this be a
world first for Australia? I don't know of any other country that
has a similar nationwide Atlas program running continuously.
