When I were a lad they were known as Black-tailed Wallabies, 
which is probably even more accurate.  "Black Wallaby" has 
been used in Victoria for a while in official publications, 
etc. (partly at least at Menkhorst's instigation it seems) 
and is somewhat appropriate down here where the animals are 
uniformly very dark in colour.  The further north one goes, 
the less black the wallabies!  The ones I saw in FNQ are a 
rather pale ginger colour.  Swamp Wallaby is certainly a 
completely misleading name though, and should be banished to 
obscurity.
